SHARE WITH ELIDA GUARDIA BONET HER LOVE FOR STORIES!!
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Panama, Elida Guardia Bonet began telling stories as a way to preserve the richness of her Spanish language and her Latin American culture and to pass it along to her daughters.
She believes it is important for children of Latino heritage to be proud of their background, and for other children to learn and appreciate a culture that is different from theirs in some ways and similar in others -- A sense of community is fostered!
A former teacher, she combines her education in History and Spanish and her love for literature to present stories that delight children and adults. "It is a great way of putting together all my backgrounds, my teaching, language, history and culture in a fun way." Elida Guardia Bonet holds a Bachelors degree in History and Spanish from St. Louis University and a Masters Degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas in Austin. Has taught Social Studies at the Middle School level and Spanish at the Elementary level in Austin, Texas.
In December 2002, Elida completed a Masters degree at The University of Texas at Austin in Anthropology with an emphasis on folklore; her thesis was on the legend of "La Llorona." At this time she is continuing towards the PhD-the adventure continues!
